Komisches Schattenbild – Strange Silhouette

Bis zum 3. April kann man im Naturhistorischen Museum Basel noch die preisgekrönten Bilder der Wildtierfotografen des Jahres bestaunen. Die Aufnahmen sind alle sehr beeindruckend. Stutzig wurde ich allerdings beim Siegerfoto in der Kategorie „Stadt“. Es zeigt das Schattenbild eines Fuchses auf einer Ziegelmauer. Ich stand viele Minuten davor weil mich irgendetwas störte. Vielleicht lag es daran, dass der Fuchs mein Lieblingsthema ist, jedenfalls fand ich das Bild „komisch“. Jetzt weiss ich es: das Schattenbild des Fuchskopfes ist komisch: Statt einer geraden Nase (linke Bilder unten) ist diese sattelförmig gebogen (rechtes Bild unten). Auch die Form der Ohren stimmt nicht. Der Fuchs hat konvex gekrümmte Ohrränder, im Schattenbild sind sie konkav gewölbt, wie ein Haifischzahn. Es ist mir unerklärlich, wie eine solche Formveränderungen im Schattenbild entstehen können. Es widerspricht den Gesetzen der Physik.

Until April 3rd, the Museum of Natural History in Basel shows the exhibition of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. All pictures are stunning. However, I became suspicious when I saw the winner picture in the category „Urban“. It shows the silhouette of a red fox on a brick wall. I have been standing in front of it for quite a while since anything displeased me. Maybe it is because the fox is my favourite subject. Anyway, I found that there is something strange with the picture. Now, I know it: The silhouette of the head is peculiar: Instead of a straight nose (left pictures below), the snout is saddle-shaped (right picture below). Also, the shape of the ear is wrong. The fox has convex auricles, but the silhouette shows concave ones, like shark teeth. It’s unexplainable how such changes in shape can occur as it contradicts the physical law.
